Automation of sheet metal flow and storage
Client
Hammar is the world’s leading manufacturer of self-loading trailers. The Swedish company has been in business for more than 40 years, currently supplying its solutions to more than 115 countries. To meet its growing production needs, the company is constantly developing its machinery. Focusing on innovative production solutions in sheet metal processing, the company decided to equip its new production hall with automation for high production efficiency.
Features
Implemented the automation system of the newly acquired laser cutting machine helps to fully utilise its production capacity, giving the possibility of faster and more efficient production at a given stage. In conjunction with the laser cutting machine, the TwinTower automated storage system was implemented along with the MultiLoader loading and unloading system.
The TwinTower automated storage system was equipped with 36 shelves measuring 3100 x 1600 mm. There are 34 locations for storing shelves with a useful height of 90 mm and 2 locations for storing overloaded shelves with a height of 200 mm. All shelves are designed for the storage of both raw sheet metal and cut parts. An important element of the automated magazine is the loading station, which allows for efficient loading and depalletisation of the raw sheets.
The MultiLoader transport module is responsible for the automation of the laser cutting machine and the smooth flow of material in two directions. A loading module equipped with a set of vacuum suction cups, a dedicated sheet separation system and a sheet thickness measurement system is responsible for picking up the raw sheets from the duo station and delivering them to the laser cutting machine table. The cut workpieces are picked up by the unloading module of the MultiLoader system equipped with two-part forks. The cut workpieces thus find their way back onto the shelf of the storage system.
The entire automation system for sheet metal processing is integrated with the Eagle laser cutting machine software, which manages the order queue executed by the entire automation system. The automation of the newly purchased laser cutting machine at Hammar ensures faster and more efficient production and the full capabilities of the new machine are utilised.
